Listen in RealAudio

When his mother put him in a basket in the river,
she did cry o,
"If you stay, you will die o, surely die o, oh, oh oh o-o-oh."

When young Moses struck the taskmaster,
he killed him and said,
"Uh-oh; if I stay, I will pay, I go die o, oh, oh, oh,."

His exile in Midian was a turning point, like Joseph in the pit, destined not to die, but to go down to Egypt.

When he saw the bush that burned without burning up, he said "Uh-oh."
And God said, "Go tell Pharoah, 'Let my people go'."

Nine terrible plagues weren't enough to convinced wicked old Pharoah, but with the tenth he did say, "I go die o!"

When the world is all around you, and there is nothin' that you can do, you just say, "I go chai o, I go chai o."

* "I go die o!" is a Pidgin English expression commonly used in Nigeria, West Africa to convey a complex emotional state with elements of both dismay and hope. A supportive response would be, "I beg o, make you no die o." It refers both to literal and figurative death and to perseverance in life, especially in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds.
